The University of Maryland, Baltimore invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Vice President /Dean of the Health Sciences and Human Services Library. Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President, the Associate Vice President / Dean (AVP/Dean) of the Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HSHSL) will provide decisive and collaborative leadership, developing a strategic vision and plan for the library that will reflect the needs of the UMB students, staff and surrounding community, creating and strengthening dynamic partnerships with UMB’s academic and administrative units to advance the University’s research, teaching, and community outreach initiatives. The AVP/Dean will leverage the library’s resources wisely to promote more diverse, equitable, and inclusive teaching and learning environment. The AVP/Dean will join a strong, service-oriented staff and lead them in the direction of a shared and well-articulated vision of the future.

The successful candidate must be a strong advocate for the library and implement dynamic, strategic, entrepreneurial, and innovative approaches that respond to the challenging academic knowledge environment. Ultimately, the successful candidate will provide the leadership to develop and achieve a vision of a university library in the 21st century; a clear understanding of the major challenges facing research university libraries in a time of complex and extended transition; the ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships across campus and to engage, influence, and facilitate synergies with UMB’s external constituents—including state, regional and national consortia and organizations; an advanced understanding of digital technology trends and their impact on information management University of Maryland, Baltimore Dean of Health Sciences and Human Services Library infrastructure; a demonstrated commitment to developing a diverse workforce and to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion goals.
