Come Connect and Collaborate at the AAHSL 4th Friday eSalon

Join us at the monthly eSalon! These director-only casual, unstructured discussions will have a general topic each month for attendees to share, brainstorm, and learn from each other. The topics will be geared to the unique needs of those in academic health sciences library leadership and facilitated by AAHSL members. Attendance is optional, free, and open to all AASHL directors.

October 2025 Topic: Unionized Environments in Academic Libraries

Description: Managing an academic library with one or more employee groups represented by unions can introduce unique dynamics that require thoughtful leadership, legal awareness, and collaborative strategies to ensure success. Managers, administration and human resources all need clear understandings of collective bargaining agreements, how to balance management and employee rights, and must work together to maintain transparent and trustworthy communication. This eSalon will explore managing in a unionized environment, and how to create successful manager-employee relationships that contribute to organizational and personal success.
