August 28, 2026 | 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM ET

Come Connect and Collaborate at the AAHSL 4th Friday eSalon

Join us at the monthly eSalon! These director-only casual, unstructured discussions will have a general topic each month for attendees to share, brainstorm, and learn from each other. The topics will be geared to the unique needs of those in academic health sciences library leadership and facilitated by AAHSL members. Attendance is optional, free, and open to all AASHL directors.

August 2026 Topic: Navigating Executive Mentorship Within Your Institution

Facilitator: Hal Bright, MLS, AHIP, A.T. Still University - A.T. Still Memorial Library, Mesa, AZ

Description: While national library associations and professional networks provide invaluable peer guidance, leading a medical school library requires an intimate understanding of your own university’s culture, power structures, and strategic priorities. External library peers understand what we do, but internal leaders understand how things get done on our specific campuses. Finding executive mentors within your institution—such as Deans of Faculty Affairs, Vice Presidents of Research, Health System Executives, or Chief Information Officers—is essential for building political capital, aligning library goals with institutional strategy, and navigating the complex matrix of academic medicine.

Join fellow medical library directors for an open discussion on strategies for identifying, approaching, and sustaining internal mentorship relationships outside the library discipline.
