Opportunity Description

Tulane University Libraries seek an experienced, innovative, and inclusive new leader for the Matas Library of the Health Sciences. Matas Library, located on Tulane’s downtown campus, serves the School of Medicine, the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, the Tulane National Primate Research Center, and physicians, residents, and clinical faculty in the Tulane Medical Center and affiliated health care centers in greater New Orleans. Leading an outstanding staff of 11 FTE (6 librarians and 5 support staff) and student assistants, the Director is the primary high-level library liaison to the health sciences on the downtown campus. The Director works with all Matas stakeholders, including students, to understand needs, build consensus around service priorities, share information, and develop imaginative approaches to user support. In tandem with the Libraries’ Associate Dean for Collections and the Director of Scholarly Engagement, the Director oversees and assesses information resource use, acquisition, and licensing, as well as instruction, outreach, programming, and cross-disciplinary initiatives to ensure harmony and broad access to all services across campuses. The Director also builds on existing partnerships with colleagues in the Office of Research, the Provost’s Office, and Campus IT through university programs and projects such as MARS, SIP, and LabArchives, to understand the evolving dynamics of health sciences research support. Success also relies on regular engagement with the Medical Library Association, including its South-Central Chapter, and other professional associations (South Central Academic Medical Libraries Consortium (SCAMeL), Health Science Library Association of Louisiana (HSLAL)). This position reports directly to the Dean of Libraries and Academic Information Resources and is a member of the Libraries’ senior management team.
