Description:

The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine seeks an outstanding professional library leader with a proven history of success in providing leadership for medical and patient centered libraries. The Director of The Health Information Center and Preston Medical Library reports to the Dean of The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine (UTGSM) and the Chief Financial Officer of University Health System (UHS). The Library Director has the primary responsibility for providing vision and leadership for planning, directing and evaluating services and resources. The library has a dual function, serving as both an academic medical center library and a patient centered library. As such, it serves with equal emphasis, the staff, faculty, students and healthcare providers at the University of Tennessee Medical Center as well as its patients, family members and community.

The Director must have experience in administrative leadership, strategic and financial planning, personnel management, obtaining grant funding, implementing research, and publishing. The successful candidate must be able to function in both an academic setting and a patient centered hospital setting. Candidates must have excellent communication skills with a diverse community of scholars, administrators, patients and families seeking health information. Applicants should have a demonstrated commitment to knowledge of equal employment opportunity, affirmative action and diversity and inclusion. A master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA accredited program is required and second master’s degree in business administration or education is desired. A minimum of five years of experience in a senior leadership role in a health sciences library and a member of the Academy of Health Informational Professions is required. Faculty rank and salary commensurate with experience.
